Once students have learned to ask substantial questions and how to find the answers, they cannot be stopped from learning all that they need to know.
Learning takes place through inquiry: questioning, exploring, experimenting and problem solving and includes acquisition of skills and knowledge, constructing meaning and transfer to different contexts.
Learning is active and social and is enhanced by collaboration and interaction.
Learners need to feel secure, valued and able to take risks.
Why I teach
I have the potential to interact with students at all stages of development and from all walks of life.
I value being a child’s advocate and helping him/her realize his/her own potential
I enjoy facilitating a healthy learning environment--one where students exhibit openness and generosity.
I am keen to the collaborate with other professionals, and find great satisfaction in the creativity needed to consider the needs of different types of learners
I am a teacher who is forever a student, I teach because this journey as educator challenges me to become a better person, both personally and professionally
How I teach
I consistently model the commitment and enthusiasm I wish my students to adopt.
My classroom is congenial, respectful and task-oriented.
I design lessons to provide “real-world” experiences and context, and involve relevant, hands-on, active learning.
Lessons are structured so that students always know what is expected of them, what we will be doing and the value in doing it.
Students are expected to freely share information and not to guard their knowledge or insights.
I employ a variety of teaching approaches to satisfy a variety of learning styles.
I use examples from my own work and share personal experiences to illustrate relevant concepts, ideas and principles.
I design websites and create digital platforms to provide students with resources and lesson materials. This essentially reduces paper waste, improves communications, and clarifies expectations.
I meet with students individually during the term to provide one-to-one feedback
